Goalkeeper Carlos Miguel signed for Nottingham Forest on Tuesday and is likely to compete with Matz Sels for the role of first-choice keeper.

We asked you for your opinions on the Brazilian and here are some of your replies:

Johnno: I am happy with the signing, from stats provided, but we just need to be sure our backline give him the protection. We need clean sheets because then we have a chance of getting something out of the games.

Tom: It is so refreshing that he has got a positive attitude towards playing for Forest from the get-go! Replacing Sels will be a tall order - but at 6ft 8in, tall is exactly what he is!

Henrik: If this signing is half as successful as that of our other Brazilian - Murillo - then we will have hit the jackpot again. He comes highly recommended and at a snip of the price. Welcome to the City Ground.

"He concluded all of the formalities yesterday and we are pleased that he will join the squad so early on in pre-season.”

The 28-year-old made 35 Premier League appearances for the Reds in his two seasons with the club.

"If I could change one thing about my story with you, I would change absolutely nothing," said Niakhate., external "I will only keep wonderful memories of my time here.

"But what I am happiest about is that I leave with the feeling that you have understood exactly who I am. You have figured me out and, in turn, I learned that Nottingham Forest is more than a football club."

  12. 'Newcastle were reluctant to let Anderson go'published at 09:09 3 July

    09:09 3 July

Nottingham Forest FC - Transfer news, results, fixtures, video and audio (9)Image source, Getty Images

BBC Radio Newcastle's Matthew Raisbeck has been explaining what Nottingham Forest supporters can expect from "competitive, energetic and versatile" new signing Elliot Anderson.

The 21-year-old came through the Newcastle United academy and went on to make 55 first-team appearances under Eddie Howe. However, the club had to sell their homegrown talent to "comply" with profit and sustainability rules.

"It has been a chaotic few days at Newcastle," Raisbeck told BBC Radio Nottingham's Shut Up And Show More Football podcast. "They needed to sell players to comply with the profit and sustainability regulations.

"Anderson is a player the club would have ideally kept, but the money was there and the deal was there to be done. Newcastle had to sell to satisfy the Premier League.

"He is competitive, energetic and versatile. When he was coming through the academy and playing for the Under-21s, he would usually play in a wide position in a three. He has played right and left, and he has also played off the striker.

"In the first-team, he has been used more as a left-sided central midfielder in the midfield three. Newcastle had a spell last season playing in a 3-4-3 and he was playing on the left of the midfield four, like a wing-back at times.

"He is technically very capable. You can see he has good habits and obviously he has been coached well at Newcastle's academy, but there is also a lot of natural ability there.

"Anderson isn't the quickest - he isn't an Anthony Elanga in terms of pace - but he is technically very good. He can beat his man, he has got the trick and he will put a tackle in.

"So there is lots to like about his game and that is why Newcastle were reluctant to let him go. But they really had no choice given that there was this soft deadline approaching on 30 June."

  13. Forest should be 'safe from PSR' - Fraypublished at 09:07 3 July

    09:07 3 July

Nottingham Forest FC - Transfer news, results, fixtures, video and audio (10)

Nottingham Forest have been forced to move quickly in the summer transfer window to avoid being "stung" by the Premier League's profit and sustainability rules for the second season running, after receiving a four-point deduction last campaign for breaches.

BBC Radio Nottingham's Colin Fray has been praising the club for finding a way to sell players while keeping hold of their "bigger assets", such as Murillo and Morgan Gibbs-White.

"That is a win for sure," Colin told the Shut Up And Show More Football podcast. "The issue that faced Forest was all of the bigger clubs knew they were struggling against profit and sustainability rules (PSR).

"Some clubs seemed to be at the mercy of those bigger clubs, who were coming in and making offers for some of their 'Crown Jewels' at a bit less than market value, because the selling clubs were so desperate to sell.

"Forest have managed to avoid that it seems. Looking from the outside in, Forest shouldn't have any issues with potential PSR deductions for the season that has just ended.

"They have done it by selling players - yes, they have had to part with some players - such as Moussa Niakhate and Orel Mangala, who are fully expected to depart for Lyon.

"Elliot Anderson came in on 'PSR deadline day' which allowed goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos to go the other way to Newcastle United in a separate deal.

"So Forest have lost some players, but the money they have been able to get in for those players should generate enough profit to see them safe in terms of PSR."

Former Nottingham Forest player Jeff Whitefoot has died at the age of 90, the club has announced.

Whitefoot made more than 250 appearances for the Reds between 1958 and 1967 and was the last surviving member of the side which famously lifted the FA Cup in 1959 - which the club said "cemented his place in Forest folklore".

He began his career with Manchester United and became the youngest player to start in a league match for the Red Devils - aged 16 years and 105 days - when he made his debut in 1950.

As part of the famous 'Busby Babes' he spent eight years at Old Trafford before moving to Grimsby Town.

He signed for Forest less than a year later and went on to feature 285 times under the management of Billy Walker, Andy Beattie and then Johnny Carey.

Whitefoot spent nearly a decade at the City Ground and his greatest achievement with the side came in his debut season as Walker's team defeated Luton Town at Wembley to win the FA Cup for the second time.

In a statement, Forest said they were "deeply saddened" by the news and that their "thoughts are with Jeff's family, friends and all who knew him".

Nottingham Forest midfielder Orel Mangala has signed for Ligue 1 side Lyon.

The deal for the 25-year-old is believed to be worth about £15m and was completed before the profit and sustainability deadline of 30 June.

Mangala, who has been at Euro 2024 with Belgium, joined the Reds from Stuttgart in July 2022 and made 53 appearances.

He spent the first half of last season with Forest before moving on loan to Lyon in the January transfer window.

The loan deal had an option to make the move to the French top-flight side permanent at the end of the campaign.

Nottingham Forest FC - Transfer news, results, fixtures, video and audio (18)Image source, Getty Images

New signing Elliot Anderson says the City Ground is "one of the best grounds in terms of atmosphere" and he can not wait to play there.

The 21-year-old has experienced Forest fans from the opposing side while at Newcastle United and enjoyed the noise that they bring.

"It was brilliant," he told the club website. "I was speaking to my parents after the game and my Dad said that it’s probably one of the best grounds he’s been to in terms of atmosphere.

"I came on in the game and it felt great to play here."

On signing for Forest, Anderson added: "I’m buzzing. I think it’s a massive club with big history and I can’t wait to get started.

"I’ve always been very fond of Nottingham Forest and I think it’s a great place to display what I can do and go on to try and help my career.

"Personally, I want to go out there and do as well as I can and help the team. For the team, I just want to finish as high as possible and get up that table."

  22. Your thoughts on Anderson signingpublished at 15:09 1 July

    15:09 1 July

Nottingham Forest FC - Transfer news, results, fixtures, video and audio (19)

We asked for your views on Elliot Anderson, who has signed for Nottingham Forest from Newcastle on a five-year deal.

Here are some of your answers:

Jamie: Young, bags of potential, some Premier League experience, plays in a few positions. We actually seem to be making sensible signings, which feels weird, but very, very good!

Dan: Positive, versatile signing for Nottingham Forest. Lots of potential. Newcastle were pushed into selling due to PSR. Reverse sale of Vlachodimos is also good for him and for Forest, he just didn’t gel at the Reds even though he’s been good elsewhere for club and country.

Kevin: My thoughts are - will Anderson fit into the team alongside Morgan Gibbs-White or has he been signed as a replacement?

Yodals: When we signed Morgan Gibbs-White, everyone raised an eyebrow at the £35m price tag. It seemed too much for an unproven player. He's turned out to be the cornerstone of our best play at Forest and a bargain. Anderson has the same potential I think, if he can learn from what Morgan did and give it everything.

  23. Is Anderson a good signing?published at 07:49 1 July

Nottingham Forest expect Elliot Anderson to "thrive" at the club, but what do you think?

The 21-year-old has signed a five-year deal in joining from Newcastle.

Chief Football Officer Ross Wilson said: “We are all delighted to welcome Elliot to Nottingham Forest and pleased that he has chosen to continue to develop his talent with us in the Premier League.

"We are sure he will thrive in a Forest shirt, as other players in his age profile have done.

“As soon as the opportunity arose for him to potentially join, it was something we were all excited to make happen.”
