What’s new in Season 12
The previous season had brought in a neat Transformers collaboration and a massive patch focused on maps. Here’s what you can expect from the next Overwatch 2 season:
- New hero Juno the Space Ranger
- Hero balancing updates
- A brand-new battle pass
New hero Juno the Space Ranger
A new Support hero, Juno offers Hyper Ring mobility buffs to allies and has Mediblaster, a burst fire weapon that heals allies and damages foes. Her secondary weapon Pulsar Torpedoes has this function as well with homing projectiles. As for being a harder target to hit, her Martian Overboots passive lets her double jump and hover in place. Pair this with Glide Boost to glide horizontally with enhanced speed. As for her Orbital Ray ultimate, it’s a massive ray of light that heals allies and buffs their damage.
Hero balancing updates
Considering that the previous season buffed tanks greatly, expect the new season to tone things down and give other heroes a fighting chance. There might be further balance changes done based on the upcoming change of 6v6 matches, a return to the original Overwatch format. Expect a Reaper rework, based on what Overwatch 2’s Lead hero Designer Alec Dawson has mentioned in earlier conversations. We don’t expect it to be as severe as Season 9’s competitive rework though.
A brand-new battle pass
Like the seasons before it, Season 12 should offer a new reward pass that offers cosmetics and other trinkets for playing matches and racking up experience. A new Mythic skin is also in the cards but we don’t know which hero will get it this season.
Will Season 12 have the Clash mode and Hanaoka map?
Clash mode was available earlier via a limited trial but it hasn’t been confirmed for Season 12 just yet. It would pair nicely with the Hanaoka map that will launch alongside it. And while we don’t know when Overwatch 2 will reintroduce its 6v6 combat, director Aaron Keller announced they’re bringing back “different forms of 6v6.” This decision comes after the community repeatedly asked Blizzard to implement the classic PvP experience. “While a limited-time test could arrive sooner, the team is still investigating exactly how long it would take to permanently increase performance across the game,” Keller noted.
