Game Engines [the only generalized one]

I decided to make a 3D platformer game, I cannot find a free Border Collie 3D model, so I just have to make my own in Blender, because my 3D platformer will be called Jacky the Border Collie quest or something like that Scratch - Imagine, Program, Share (3)

I'm bad at Blender. I'm trying to get better. Do you have any tips?

Learning Node.js? Great! But, don't waste your time creating a web server. I already created a fully functional Node.js server on Github right here! It also has a very detailed documentation!
Or are you interested in making games in Unity? Want to see how I'm making my very own FPS game? Then see my FPS-Game repo right here!

I made a 3D engine in Love2d

Well… Love2d isn’t really an “engine”, it’s more like a framework. My 3D engine also isn’t really an “engine”, it just renders a teapot.

I use Ren'Py, which uses Python to make visual novels. It has a lot of customization options.

I also use GDevelop, an event-based visual language. I don't know how to explain it, but each event triggers something, and it runs on separate threads.

I made a 3D engine in Wick Editor

Well… Wick Editor isn’t really an “engine”, it’s more like a 2d animation software with scripting capabilities. From experience, it's too buggy and unoptimized to be used as an engine for a big game. My 3D engine also isn’t really an “engine”, it just renders a teapot and a hopping pumpkinhead.

I was also making a clone of the Roblox engine with GLFW and C++. Then I tried actually adding physics to it and got bored cus it was hard. But it did load Roblox levels in XML which is pretty cool. If only i had used Git back then, then I wouldn't have to manually undo around 400 lines of code to get it to a stable state.

i'm a unity dev but my team of scratchers - (look up bluecube on scratch or blueplay-games on github) - prefers godot, and as a unity dev to switch to godot so quickly is so difficult.

so yeah

im making a racing game in godot. i wanted the art direction to be stylized and cartoony, so i tried adding stencil shadows, since they have infinitely sharp edges. as you cannot access the stencil buffer in godot, i had to modify a fork of godot so that making stencil shadows would be possible. this took like 16 hours of work.

i don't know why it took so long, the only thing the fork was missing was the ability to configure the write operation, which wasn't too hard to code in. probably cus godot build times are like 15-30 mins. i was dumb and decided to use gcc instead of msvc lol, once i switched to msvc it only took 7 mins to make a debug build.

stencil shadows do work, but because i'm tired of doing work on that, i'll look at getting better working stencil shadows in that game another time. also i noticed it's picky about the camera frustum so that may be a problem.

anyway i think stencil operations might be coming in godot 4.3 or 4.4 which is cool. (not cus of my work, i think i'll wait for that fork to merge and then make my pr.)

After browsing both the Making and Creating forum directory 2.0. and it's spin off 3.0., I decided that this forum needed some centralized thread for game engines other than Scratch.

So, feel free to talk about what games creating outside Scratch, what engine you're using, and where you plan to publish them, if at all. Maybe you're using Unity, or the Blender Game Engine, or Unreal, or RPG Maker, or the CryEngine, or whatever else you use; in 3D or 2D or 2.5D; making an FPS or RPG or some sci fi or horror (just don't be too graphic when mentioning horror) discuss it here!

(I personally use Godot as my main game engine, so easy and advanced at the same time.)

P.S. Yes, I mean game engines. Unless you're scripting your own, individual programming languages by themselves don't count…

Hello I'm Fulcrum, and this is my first fourm post! I saw thus and decided to talk about what I'm up to in game development! I'm working on a scratch game called Laser Gladiators, but I got a bit tired and decided to take a break on scratch. I've been using scratch for years, and with this break, I decided to learn a new coding language. Since my school laptop is very limited, I installed Godot. The hardest part about learning a new software is the ui. I'm getting a lot better at navigation, and started writing some code. I watched some tutorials, and coded a 2d grid platformer. Even though I watch these tutorials, it's difficult. My laptop uses Godot 3, while the tutorials are in Godot 4. However, I'm learning a lot and just wanted to share.

Thanks for reading my post! This is my first post, so I'm not very good, but if you would like to talk more about Scratch or Godot, you can find me @Fulcrum-19, or I am a member of Mox Studios https://scratch.mit.edu/studios/32377214/
