Please read below for the written pattern. The finished blanket will be 35×37. If you’re looking to make a bigger sized blanket, simply increase the amount of chains at the beginning. This blanket is versatile and can be made into any size, using the multiple of 3+2. You can even make this blanket to fit a king sized bed! Whatever you desire, this waffle stitch blanket pattern is sure to become one of your favorite patterns.

Video Tutorial:

For a beginner, I recommend sticking to a solid color worsted weight yarn for now until you get more practice. Using a solid color will help you see the stitches better. However, if you feel ready, go ahead and try a variegated color like I did with this blanket. I’m using Caron Cake yarn in Rainbow Sprinkles. The great thing about this waffle stitch blanket pattern is that you can use any color you would like. Feeling ambitious? Create a striped blanket by changing colors! Check out this lesson where I teach you how to change colors in your crochet projects.

This waffle stitch blanket pattern is free on my website.

Materials:

Finished Size: 35×37

Pattern:

Chain 137 (or any multiple of 3+2)

ROW 1: Make a double crochet into the 3rd chain from your hook and in each chain across. Chain 1 and turn (135 double crochet)

ROW 2: Work a double crochet into the very first stitch. *In the next stitch, work a front post double crochet, work 1 double crochet in the next 2 stitches. Repeat from * across until 1 stitch remains. Work a front post double crochet in the last stitch and 1 double crochet into the top of the turning chain. Chain 1 and turn.

ROW 3: Work a double crochet into the very first stitch. *Work a double crochet in the next stitch and a front post double crochet in the next two stitches. Repeat from * to last two stitches. Next, work 1 double crochet into each of the remaining 2 stitches. Chain 1 and turn.

Repeat ROWS 2 and 3 until blanket is desired length. Be sure to end on a row 2 for a neat edge.

Border: Chain 1 and make a single crochet in each stitch around putting 3 single crochets into each corner. Slip stitch to beginning stitch.

To Finish: Leave at least 6 inches for your tail. Cut yarn. Yarn over your hook and pull through the last stitch of your row and tighten. To weave in all yarn ends, thread your yarn in your tapestry needle and go in between the stitches one way and back the other way. This will keep your project from coming apart.
